Copies and Reproductions

Want copies of documents or photographs from our collections?

We provide photocopies and digital reproductions to all researchers at no cost but do reserve the right to impose limits on a case by case basis.

We may need to set some limits or restrictions on copying and scanning to protect fragile materials. We also cannot accommodate requests for entire collections or large numbers of documents to be reproduced. Although we do allow researchers to use cameras with the flash turned off in our reading room, personal scanners are not allowed.

If you think you may need a large number of documents reproduced, let us know. We may be able to work with you to narrow the scope of large reproduction requests.

Our reproduction services include:

All reproductions are for private study, scholarship, or research only.

Copyright Compliance

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

The Norwich University Archives and Special Collections reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
