Included are his journals and personal insights on his many trips to the Soviet Union between 1964 and 1987. Also included are many albums of slides, photographs and postcards documenting his interests and travels in nine Soviet republics. There are copies of research papers and presentations produced by Dr. McKain between 1944-1977 (bulk).
About Walter C. McKain
Walter McKain graduated from Harvard University in 1934 (MA) and 1947 (Ph.D). Following his graduation he served as Assistant State Supervisor of Rural Research in Connecticut. He joined the faculty of the University of Connecticut in 1947. He was an expert in the field of gerontology and published on the subjects of aging, health and longevity of the populations of the Soviet Union. As part of his research he visited nine republics of the Soviet Union between 1964 and 1987. He retired in 1972 and he and his wife Elizabeth moved to Northfield, VT. Professor McKain served as an adjunct professor at Norwich University’s former Russian School and took an active interest in the School from approximately 1972 to 1999.
