The collection consists primarily of the files created and accrued by Henry Orser during his tenure as treasurer of Norwich University. An alphabetical content listing of files contains additional information about the collection.
About Henry Ward Orser
Henry Orser was born in Carlisle, New Brunswick, in 1879 but his parents moved to Lowell, MA, when he was a boy and he attended the public schools there. He entered Norwich University in 1898 and remained for two years. He engaged in mining in Cripple Creek, CO, for several years before returning to Northfield, where he worked first for the Northfield Savings bank and later for Norwich University. In 1915, he became treasurer of the university and served in that capacity until 1933. As treasurer, Orser also served as secretary to the board of trustees from 1916 to 1933.
He married Wilhelmina Ripley in 1900. The couple had a son, Ward Bailey Orser, born 8 May 1901, who died during the Spanish influenza epidemic of 1918. The control file included with the collection contains additional biographical information on Henry Ward Orser.
