Summary Creator Garran, Frank W., 1894-1945 Title Frank Warren Garran Family Papers Dates 1884-1929 Extent 1 Box (.5 linear feet) About the Collection
The collection consists of photographs, news clippings and other ephemera compiled in photograph album and scrapbook format by Frank Garran’s daughter, Priscilla Erval Garran Bergethon. The scrapbook pages are narrated by Bergethon’s type-written explanations and recollections of her family.
This project was originally inspired by photograph albums and other family memorabilia inherited by Bergethon from her mother, Harriet Whitney Garran. Wherever possible, the scrapbook attempts to maintain the original order of these albums. Prominently showcased family members include Frank Garran and his wife, Harriet Whitney Garran, their parents, children and siblings. Harriet Whitney was the child of Minnie Erval McIlvaine and Fred Norris Whitney, and had a brother, Philip Whitney, who also attended Norwich University; Frank Garran’s parents were George and Priscilla Stevens Garran. Many photographs in the collection also document the childhood of Priscilla Bergethon and her brothers, Philip Garran and Frank W. Garran, Jr., as the family moved from Northfield, Vermont, to Arizona and Charleston, South Carolina.
