About the Collection
The collection consists of 9 files of photographs, 1921-1925 and 1955-1965, most of which pertain to Norwich University parades and formations, rook week and student life during William, David, and Donald Barrington’s tenures at Norwich. There are also a limited number of oversize photographs, including one panoramic group portrait of the NU Corps of Cadets in 1924. Additionally, photographs documenting William Barrington’s post-Norwich military career, including two rolled, panoramic group photographs, are included in the collection. There are also papers, 1921-1925, 1933, 1940-1948, and 1951-1957, the majority of which pertain to Barrington’s post-Norwich military career during World War II (in the United States) and in the Reserves. Both the 68th Army Air Force Training Detachment at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME, and William Barrington’s time at Officer Training School is well represented in Barrington’s papers from 1942 to 1944. Personal notebooks and training manuals from the early 1940s are included as well as ephemera and diagrams and drawings (OSD2.2), possibly related to geometry, completed during his time as a Norwich student.
