About the Collection
The collection consists primarily of the files created and accrued by Lewis Perry during his tenure as vice president at Norwich University. Also included are color slides taken by Perry of the Norwich University campus, 1957-1963. Upon his sudden death in 1963, Perry was succeeded by Elmer Lewis Munger. About Lewis Ebenezer Perry
Lewis E. Perry was born in Alma, New York, on 24 July 1899. He graduated from Bethany College in 1920, earned a master’s degree in school administration from Columbia University in 1925, and a Ph.D, also in school administration, from the University of Pittsburgh in 1939. From 1920 to 1946, he served as a teacher and administrator in public high schools in Illinois and Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Student Army Training Corps (S.A.T.C.) in 1918 and served as an Infantry Reserve Officer from 1928 to 1946. He was in the Italian, Southern France and Central European campaigns in World War II. He retired from the Army in 1954 with the rank of Colonel. Lewis Perry served as dean of Norwich University from 1957 to 1963. He was appointed vice president in 1961. He died on 7 June 1963 during commencement ceremonies on Sabine field. He married Lillian Ashe and the couple had two children.
