Basil Burrell’s time at the Armored School in Fort Knox, 1944; his service with the 191st and 774th Tank Battalions during World War II; and his service with the 332nd Logistical Command, 1961-1965. There is ephemera dating to his time at Norwich, 1942-1947, and to post-Norwich alumni events from the 1950s to the 1980s. Also included are photographs and photo postcards by Basil Burrell of Norwich University in the early 1940s and during a return visit to campus several decades later.
About Basil S. Burrell
Basil Burrell, originally from Darien, CT, was a member of the NU Class of 1944, eventually graduating in 1947 with a degree in mechanical engineering after serving in World War II. He served with the 14th Armored Division, 191st and 774th Tank Battalions during World War II. From 1950-1965, Basil Burrell served with the 322nd Logistics Command in Chicago. He was recalled to active duty and served from October 1961 to July 1962. He enjoyed skiing and stamp collecting. He was married in 1948 and he and his wife Audrey had two daughters.
