About Briard Poland Johnson
Major General Briard Poland Johnson graduated from Norwich University with the class of 1927 and later served as commandant of cadets and professor of military science in 1950. After his graduation from Norwich, he worked as a civil engineer for six years. He began his active duty service with the U.S. Army in 1933. From 1941 to 1946, he served with the 2nd Armored Division. After the war, he graduated from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS, and served in operations and training at Fort Monroe, VA. He then graduated from the Air War College in Alabama and came to Norwich to serve as commandant. He returned to the 2nd Armored Division when the Korean War began, serving in Texas and Germany. From 1953 to 1962, he worked at various assignments in Washington, DC, Michigan and Virginia, and served as Chief, Joint Military Advisory Group in Thailand. He retired from the army in 1963 having received many military citations throughout his career. Briard Johnson married Helen Nelson in 1929.
