Richard Dwyer’s time at Norwich. Many of the negatives were taken by Dwyer in his role as photographic editor of the War Whoop, 1939-1941. However, photographs may also date from Dwyer’s time as an underclassman, as he was active in the camera club throughout his tenure on campus. Subjects represented in the collection include the Aero Club, band/music, campus buildings and grounds (both interior and exterior shots), construction on campus, scenic shots, drama, baseball, football, polo and other equestrian activities, marksmanship, sailing/rowing, skiing, tennis, the “N” Club, parades and formations, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, social events (dances, mixers, parties) and tug of war competitions. Photographic portraits of Richard Dwyer as a Norwich cadet can be found in the control file.

About Richard John Dwyer
Richard John Dwyer, from Newtonville, MA, pursued a liberal arts course while at Norwich University and graduated with the class of 1941. While at Norwich, Dwyer was active in the camera and Newman clubs. He was a member of the polo and rifle teams. Dwyer also served on the staffs of the Guidon and War Whoop, functioning as photographic editor of the latter. He was a pistol expert and a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Richard Dwyer served in Europe and the Pacific Theater during World War II. The control file included with the collection contains additional biographical information on Richard Dwyer.
