About George B. Fisher
George B. Fisher served in Company C, 25th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, during the Civil War. Fisher’s grandson, Brayton D. Fisher, graduated from Norwich University with the class of 1928.

The following medals were removed from the George B. Fisher Papers and transferred to the Sullivan Museum and History Center on 4 March 2010:
Small bronze medal in the shape of a Maltese cross engraved “Geo. B. Fisher, 1st Brigade, 2d Division, 18th A.C., Co. C, 25th Mass. Vols.” The donor claims the medal was attached to a “leather pocketbook,” the leather of which had deteriorated.
Bronze medal suspended from a red, white and blue ribbon and engraved “Filii Veteranorum Gratia Dei Servatus” and dated 1881. Also see the student papers collection in the University Archives for a paper on George Fisher’s Civil War experiences written by Ryan Kresiak in 1996 for his Civil War history class.
Pocket New Testament (1861) carried by Sergeant George B. Fisher during the Civil War. The control file included with the collection contains additional information about the provenance of this item. “The Battle of Roanoke [NC]” (February 1863) written by George B. Fisher.
