About Walter D. Emerson
Walter Emerson joined the faculty of Norwich University in 1924, rising to the head of the engineering department in 1940. During World War II, he was director of engineering defense training in Vermont and a personnel specialist for the technical detachment of the U.S. War Department. From 1942 to 1945, he served on the U.S. government war committee in the field of special education in Washington, DC. Professor Emerson retired in 1959. As a professional engineer, Walter Emerson was active in both state and national organizations. He married Fannie May Niles in 1917 and they had four children. Walter Emerson died on 19 July 1982 in Burlington, VT.
