Title Commencement Ephemera Collection Dates 1823-2014 Extent 2 Drawers (2 linear feet) About the Collection
The collection consists of files of ephemera, predominantly programs and agendas, produced and distributed as part of commencement, commissioning and convocation celebrations at Norwich University. Speeches, addresses and other exercises given during commencement or convocation ceremonies are also documented as well as biographical information related to honorary degree recipients. Early programs document commencement exercises of Norwich from its beginnings as the American Literary Scientific and Military Academy but do not typically include names of graduates. Between 1972 and 2001, programs associated with commencement ceremonies of Vermont College are also included in this collection. Some documentation of planning for commencement ceremonies by the administration is also included in these files. All ephemera is organized chronologically by year from 1823 to the present, although not all years are represented. In particular, gaps occur during the WWI and WWII years, when the number of regular students on campus meant that commencement ceremonies were not always performed. This collection is open to new accessions and ephemera is added to the collection on an ongoing basis.
