Caraganis. Also included is information related to Chris W. Caraganis’ membership in the Naval War College Foundation as well as general orders and training bulletins from the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in World War I. Orders and other WWI materials, including several notebooks from lectures on gas defense and coordination, may have been originally compiled by a Captain C. D. Morse of the 301st Infantry, Company H, before passing into General Caraganis’ hands. Captain Morse appears to be no relation to General Caraganis. About Costas L. Caraganis
Costas L. Caraganis was born in Lowell, MA, in 1910, the son Christina Sigalos and Louis Caraganis. He received a B.S. degree from Massachusetts State College and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1933. He entered active duty in January 1941 and served with the 84th Reconnaissance Battalion and with Headquarters of the 4th Armored Division. He was released from active duty in January 1946. While in reserve status, General Caraganis served with the 321st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, the 304th Armored Cavalry Regiment/Group, the 187th Infantry Brigade, and eventually as Assistant Division Commander of the 94th Infantry Division. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1961. He was active in the Fort Devens Historical Society beginning with its incorporation in 1968, when he was vice-president of the board of directors. General Caraganis died in December 1998.

Between 1985 and 1993, General Caraganis donated his library to the Kreitzberg library. These books have been assimilated into the general library collection.
Maps accepted with these papers were transferred to the collections of the Sullivan Museum and History Center in June 2011.
