Hyde Papers Dates 1942-1945 Extent 1 Box (.50 linear feet) About the Collection The collection consists of 300 negatives pertaining to Dr. Edgar Hyde’s World War II service as head of the 91st Evacuation Hospital, ETO, from December 1942 to September 1945. There is an index to the negatives, which includes locations only; more complete descriptions of the photographs can be found on the individual negative enclosures. There is also the “Journal of Foreign Service of First Lieutenant Edgar R. Hyde with the 91st Evacuation Hospital,” which is a typescript transcription produced for the Friends of the Kreitzberg Library’s Military Service Project documenting Hyde’s service. Also included in the control file are Edgar Hyde’s reminiscences (14 pp.) and an article by Hyde entitled “Scent & the Scenting Dog” (8 pp.). About Edgar R. Hyde Dr. Edgar Hyde attended Dartmouth College Medical School, class of 1936, and Cornell Medical
College. He served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II. While in the service, he was in charge of a 400-bed semi-mobile evacuation hospital in the European Theater of Operations (ETO) from December 1942 to September 1945. Upon his discharge, he moved to Northfield, VT, to practice medicine with Dr. Scott Pedley. Edgar Hyde served the town of Northfield and Norwich University, as college physician, for more than thirty-five years.
