About the Vermont Science and Mathematics Fair Every year as early as 1956, Vermont students have been invited to participate in the Vermont State Science and Mathematics Fair (VSSMF). The fair currently provides an opportunity for
students in grades 5-12 and their teachers to showcase the results of their research in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. 250 student projects are selected and judged by at least three judges yearly. Cash and trip prizes donated by local organizations as well as scholarships to Vermont colleges may be awarded to student participants. The fair is sponsored by the Vermont Principals’ Association and has been held at Norwich University since 1981. The annual event is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, which also awards student prizes.
