Nathaniel Brown Dodge Letter
About the Collection
Letter dated 4 July 1776 from Crown Point, NY, from Nathaniel Dodge to his wife, contains an account of his experiences both in New York and Canada. Dodge mentions the devastating effects of small pox both on himself and on his comrades. According to an article in Vermont Quarterly 21 (January 1953) 29-35, Dodge’s 1776 diary was in the private hands of a descendant in Barre, VT. A typed transcription of the letter is available.
About Nathaniel Brown Dodge
Nathaniel Dodge, soldier of the American Revolution, possibly from Dudley, Massachusetts, was in service for one year. On 22 April 1818, then a resident of Underhill, VT, he applied for a pension, giving his age as seventy-eight years. The claim was allowed.
